ProCredit Bank Supports Ukrainian Nationwide Information Campaign to Promote Cashless Payments

As of today, the National Bank of Ukraine launched #Cashless, a nationwide information campaign to promote cashless payments.

The purpose of the campaign is to inform Ukrainians about the benefits and convenience of cashless payments.

During the campaign, the National Bank and its partners will provide information about current opportunities for the wide use of cashless payments, such as how to open a bank account, types of payment cards, online banking, and how to make payments and transfers through payment websites and marketplaces using payment details and QR codes. They will also explain NFC technology, how to tokenise a payment card and add it to your smartphone, smartwatch or fitness tracker, and will remind the public of the basic security rules for making cashless payments.

“As evidenced by a survey conducted by the National Bank in 2020, 76% of Ukrainians have used a payment card in the last year, but only 21% have used online banking services. A significant percentage of individuals who receive a salary, scholarship or pension on their cards withdraw money at an ATM and pay in cash,” said Oleksii Shaban, the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.

He added that the elderly population of Ukraine, especially in the regions, needs the most support in learning how to make cashless payments, as this issue requires not only financial but also digital skills.

“Therefore, we expect that young people will help the elderly generation to get acquainted with the features of cashless payments and teach them to pay for utilities and make purchases online,” said Oleksii Shaban.

Thus, the #Cashless campaign is both educational and social.

“The National Bank has consistently pursued a policy aimed at increasing the share of cashless payments. We have the Roadmap for Development of Cashless Economy Until 2025, which provides for the gradual transition of Ukraine to a cashless economy by promoting cashless payments, developing a cashless payment infrastructure, reducing the use of cash and ensuring the sustainability of the payment infrastructure,” said Arsen Makarchuk, Director of the Strategy and Development Department.

“Today we can observe a clear trend towards an increase in the number and amounts of cashless payments. Ukrainians increasingly prefer cashless payments. Cashless payments have already become a habit for many Ukrainians, which meets their current needs. At the same time, it is an indicator of both the growth of financial literacy and trust in payment innovations. We believe that the information campaign will help people of all ages find answers to all their questions and use the various cashless payment instruments even more,” said Olha Vasylieva, Deputy Director of the Payment Systems and Innovative Development Department of the National Bank of Ukraine.

“ProCredit Bank has been providing its clients with high-quality services on transparent and simple terms for many years. Our simple and intuitive electronic services, such as our mobile application and online banking, give our customers access to a wide range of services without having to visit the bank. The introduction of innovative and advanced technologies is an integral part of ProCredit Bank’s business model. We are constantly improving, taking into account the needs and desires of our customers,” said Iryna Maliuk, Head of the Private Client Development Department of ProCredit Bank. “We believe that the future belongs to online transactions, so we are pleased to support the campaign to promote cashless payments.”

For educational purposes, the National Bank is also launching Cashless, a special website that provides details about the campaign and cashless payments.

The #Cashless information campaign will run for three months in all regions of Ukraine with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in partnership with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the UK Good Governance Fund, the Deposit Guarantee Fund and Cyberpolice.

The campaign is a continuation of the information campaigns on the security of cash payments #АнатоміяГривні (Anatomy of the Hryvnia) and the combating of fraud #ШахрайГудбай (Goodbye, Fraud).
